SAFE USE OF MEDICATION

Groningen loves a party. Festivals, nightclubs, and terraces are a part of life in the city. At the same time, young people sometimes use excessive alcohol or drugs, which poses risks to their health and to safety in the nightlife area. Testing centers are also limited in availability, meaning drugs are often not tested. New legislation can help, but the municipality must primarily focus on prevention, good education, and safe conditions. Student & Stad wants those who use substances to be able to do so safely, responsibly, and with proper information.

We provide young people with clear information about the risks of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs before they turn eighteen. If young people use substances later on, we ensure they know how to do so safely and what risks substances entail.

We support bottom-up initiatives that align well with young people, such as 'Door het Geluid', the 'CokeShow', and other high-quality campaigns. This keeps professionals and young people in conversation, making it possible to quickly signal and address excessive use.

We support preventive initiatives in nightclubs and at events. Floor angels help identify unsafe situations and provide support. Safe spaces at festivals and a Night City Hall in the nightlife area offer a safe place in cases of excessive substance use.

We are ensuring more testing locations and extended opening hours of drug testing centers. This allows residents to test their drugs safely and responsibly.

We are positive about the legalization of soft drugs and the cannabis experiment in Groningen. This takes cannabis out of the criminal circuit.
