SPACE TO RELAX

SPACE TO RELAX

Groningen is growing, and with that, the need for places to relax is also increasing. The Noorderplantsoen, the Stadspark, and the Stadsstrand are becoming increasingly crowded, while new recreation areas lag behind. Student & Stad wants the municipality to take recreation seriously in spatial planning, so that everyone can relax close to home. That means more green spaces, new city beaches, and more room by the water. The Diepenring, the Stadspark, and locations like the Piccardthofplas offer plenty of opportunities to make Groningen even more attractive. Student & Stad advocates for a city that makes room for recreation, meeting, and quiet.

SPACE TO RELAX

We are retaining the City Beach and adding new swimming areas, including at the Zuiderplantsoen.

We are improving water quality, tackling blue-green algae, and looking into place where safe swimming will be possible in the long term.

We are creating extra recreational areas throughout the city: green spaces, grass fields, hangout spots by the water, and new City Beaches.

The Stationskade and Oosterkade will become meeting places by the water. We are removing rules that unnecessarily limit relaxation, such as the alcohol ban in the Noorderplantsoen.

We are providing good basic facilities at recreational areas: toilets, drinking water taps, trash cans, sunscreen stations, and bottle recycling points.

We are making the Diepenring more attractive and safer with green quays, seating areas, terraces, art, and better lighting. We are also ensuring adequate climbing out facilities and public toilets, and we will launch an awareness campaign every year for new students to prevent nighttime accidents.
