Groningen owes its liveliness and vibrant character to its rich variety of events. We rank among the top ten in the Netherlands and are the hotspot of the North. Student & Stad wants to maintain and strengthen that position. In practice, however, organizers often encounter unclear or overly strict regulations. Neighborhood celebrations on King's Day became harder to organize, large screens for the Euro 2024 matches were restricted, and dance events suddenly have to stop by 11:00 PM. At the same time, the Suikerunieterrein will disappear as a location for large festivals like Paradigm, while the demand for events is actually growing. Student & Stad wants Groningen to move forward and not get slowed down by unnecessary rules. A city where large festivals and small neighborhood parties are possible, where talent finds stages, and where culture is visible in all neighborhoods.

EVENTS
Preservation of the Suikerunieterrein as a fixed, large events location and development into a cultural hotspot for festivals, live music, and alternative scenes.
More space and resources for city-wide celebrations such as King's Day, Groningens Ontzet, and Wintergoud, so that Groningen strengthens its position as a lively event city.
We reduce, clarify, and simplify regulations. The municipality must think along with residents and entrepreneurs about how something actually can be done, from large festivals to a bar with live music.
New event locations spread throughout the city so that the supply can grow and be distributed across multiple neighborhoods.
We will ensure a large, central professional light and/or fireworks show on New Year's Eve that gives Groningen a spectacular start to the year and provides a good alternative to consumer fireworks.
We will ensure that events with local ties, such as weddings and anniversary parties, do not run into problems finding a location.
