CONNECTION STUDENTS & STADJERS

CONNECTION STUDENTS & STADJERS

Groningen is a real student city. That brings energy, liveliness, and attractiveness for companies and residents. Students contribute positively to Groningen, but cohabitation does not always go smoothly. Different living rhythms, norms, and expectations can lead to friction, especially around noise nuisance and social cohesion in some neighbourhoods. Student & Stad aims to strengthen the connection between students and residents. Not just by enforcing rules, but especially by investing in connection, prevention, and understanding. Cohabitation requires space for each other and a willingness to adapt. This is a core theme for our party.

CONNECTION STUDENTS & STADJERS

We are building shared neighbourhoods where students and city residents live together and where the spatial planning encourages interaction.

We are organising more accessible events and activities that bring both groups together. We are revitalizing 'Groningens Ontzet', strengthening the Liberation Festival, and promoting neighbourhood parties that enhance togetherness.

We are expanding 'WIJS' and firmly supporting the initiative. Students help neighbourhood residents with letters, legal questions, or financial problems. WIJS is now active in seven neighbourhoods.

We appoint two neighbourhood coordinators in each neighbourhood, one city resident and one student. They serve as the point of contact in the neighborhood and mediate where necessary in conflicts.

In case of disturbances, we choose dialogue over repression. Making agreements with the neighbourhood or forming a joint app group often prevents escalation.

We give more attention and support to what students and student associations do for the city. Charitable causes, social projects, and startups that strengthen connections between students and Stadjers deserve visibility and support.
