NATURE & ENVIRONMENT

Strengthening nature means not only more green but especially specific types of green: native species that support and restore our existing ecosystems. Groningen must better protect existing nature, expand where possible, and adjust the green maintenance to what flora and fauna need. Animals should also be able to live safely and decently within our municipality.

NATURE & ENVIRONMENT

We replace hardened squares, roofs, and parking spaces with green and indigenous plants that enhance biodiversity.

We strive for the 3-30-300 rule: three trees around each house, 30% leaf cover in the neighborhood, and a park or green space within 300 meters.

We focus on nature conservation by strengthening the Municipal Ecological Structure and actions such as ‘maai-mei-niet’, so that biodiversity can recover.

We investigate environmental pollution in soil and water, including PFAS and PFOA, and address pollution according to the principle: the polluter pays.

We pay attention to animal welfare within the municipality, for example, with the animal policy, and work on raising awareness about indigenous plants and animals.
