DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

Student & Stad stands for a Groningen where everyone feels welcome, safe, and seen. Regardless of gender, religion, origin, disability, or sexual orientation. Diversity and inclusion must be visible in policy, in public spaces, and in nightlife. A city for everyone can only arise by making room for groups that currently lack that space. Student and Stad takes that responsibility, as with our initiative proposal from 2024↗ for better acceptance and safety for the LGBTQIA+ community.

DIVERSITY & INCLUSION

We actively guard constitutional freedoms and equal treatment and take action against any form of discrimination or exclusion. We focus on awareness and reporting campaigns, among other things, about discrimination against internationals. We protect the right to demonstrate so that demonstrations can take place safely, visibly, and without unnecessary restrictions.

We make diversity and inclusion a matter of effort for subsidies and permits for festivals and cultural institutions. Municipal support means actively contributing to a city where everyone feels welcome.

We give international residents a clear place in policy, communication, and events through a city-wide international working group that advises on language, participation, and integration, both upon request and unsolicited.

We anchor diversity and inclusion within the municipal organization by continuing much of the existing policy. We believe that transgender people should receive (paid) transition leave from the municipality and encourage other employers to follow this example.

We stand for the LGBTQIA+ community. We implement our initiative proposal, strengthen acceptance and safety, and investigate, together with organizations, the desirability of an independent rainbow ambassador.

We ensure a more diverse and safer nightlife. We create more space for LGBTQIA+ nightlife venues and tackle discrimination at the door through a reporting point and training. For more, see the chapters 'Nightlife'↗ and 'Safe Going Out'↗.

We celebrate and commemorate together: Liberation Day, Keti Koti, and other festive and commemorative days receive a prominent place in the city.

We continue to engage with and support organisations such as COC so that they can expand their work and provide more training and information in schools and with employers.
