Groningen is an active city, and it should stay that way. Whether you row on the canals in the morning, train with your club in the evening, or play a game of basketball in the Noorderplantsoen: movement contributes to health, social connection, and mental well-being. That's why Student & Stad focuses on sufficient capacity, affordable student sports, and accessible facilities in all neighbourhoods.

We are investing in more capacity: new indoor sports halls, outdoor fields, and utilising opportunities for collaboration between regular sports clubs and student sports.

We keep student sports affordable. The low ACLO rates must remain, and we advocate for a change in the law so that this is no longer dependent on a tolerance policy from The Hague.

We are renewing the Kardinge Sports Center (including the ice rink), so that top-level and recreational sports no longer have to move to other municipalities.

We make sports more accessible by adding urban sports parks and outdoor facilities such as basketball courts or calisthenics in neighborhoods. This way, everyone can participate in sports, even without a gym or club membership.

We make sports visible in the city and, for example, strive to bring a marathon and the world championship student speed skating to Groningen.

We design sports areas as meeting places, for example, by adding cafeterias.
